Cardiff half marathon development

From my design then took the initial ideas that i had rawn into
illustrator and played around with the layout of the typography.
The typography has proved difficult as the clarendon typeface
used is very static for the the personality of the brief. The serif
typeface suggests no movement and suggests very static
stationary typeface. This means that the logo that i design has
to interpret movement working with the typeface. It has to show
movement and wales through modern contemporary logo.

The dragon logo interprets a road flowing through to an image of
the a dragon  the first design is more subtle yet the and design
interprets a more harsh fierce dragon . Considering it will sit
against the typeface the logo cannot be to detailed as the deign
will be too busy because of the serifs on the typeface.

Then using the image and testing with the typeface this again

work with the flowing line up to the f. IT reminds me owever of
gordon ramsey's kitchen nightmares logo. I think with the powerful red.

Testing both elements working together with the half in roman
and the cardiff and marathon in bold making the element of
half show through as half . At the moment I am trying to make
the logo work with the type and balance both together.

In my opinion and asking others they felt that the red and
grey worked best the green may interpret as a fresh brand
but may relate to food yet it is still a consideration.

This is the current logo that I am working with placing a box
within the logo adds a element of more speed it also breaks
it down so I can use on 2 colors and I know that it will work
better inverted or on black and white. I will tests to see if it
can be adapted to other printed material to see if the logo is
lost of the typeface is lost. With a tutorial with joe and Justin
yesterday we felt the error within the logo may be that the
typeface may be lost from a distance. This is a common
problem of mine which needs to be addressed quickly and
efficiently. Although when looking at the logo the balance of the
image and the type does balance evenly.

Cardiff half marathon Initial ideas

This was an initial quick brainstorm
into what represents running road races
in cardiff condensing it down into what
cardiff half marathon is trying to represent.

Then once I had condensed down what the client
wants the message and personality to be through
the logo I then develop the idea through to more
visual ideas such as basic ideas such as heart
rate finishing lines dots in the distance lines a
shapes road race so road lines. The brief is
something I will expand to brochure race
guidelines and adapting the logo to a range of
printed material.

Developing the idea through lines and experimenting
with the layout as oner of the limitations is that we
have to use clarendon as the typeface for the logo.

Brief 1 Redesign the cardiff logo

This is my first brief that I have started looking at rebranding the Cardiff marathon logo. The design is to be modern yet simple and effective. I want to ensure that I reflect the personality of the event as well as the Welsh background through the logo. The brief will be a quick sharp brief to initially design the logo then adapt the logo in creative ways to a range of media type and layout.
